Description The paper deals with the image of Slovakia in selected Czech printed media, i.e. in the daily newspapers of Lidové noviny, Venkov and Právo lidu (Národní práce), in the period of the second republic and the first months after establishing the Protectorate Bohemia and Moravia. The text works only with comment-character articles, written by journalists or external co-operators of the examined newspapers. Due to the fact that press was subject to extensive regulation and severe censorship at the time, the paper will also focus on internal instructions and supervisory mechanisms having an impact on the resulting media products. The interest taken in Czech media in Slovakia in its autonomous form reflected the efforts of the second-republic establishment to quickly stabilise the constitutional relations of the republic weakened by the Munich Treaty, while emphasising, above all, the motive of Czech and Slovak unity. On the other hand, after establishing the independent Slovak state and following the establishment of the Protectorate in the Czech lands occupied by the Nazis, the topics associated with Slovakia quickly disappeared from the analysed Czech newspapers.
