Description Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic pruritic skin disease of unknown origin. It is characterized by eczematous lesions, in serious cases also erythroderma, xerosis, and lichenification. AD may be associated with other atopic diseases (eg, allergic rhinitis, asthma, allergic reaction to foods). AD has enormous morbidity, and the incidence and prevalence appear to be increasing. The report presents a 48-year-old man with atopic eczema, with extent of erythroderma, complicated by secondary bacterial infection. The patient was successfully treated by cyclosporin in a dose of 200 mg per day, after three months the dose was reduced. The patient was continually treated by cyclosporin, almost without any side effects. Quality of life in this patient was considerably improved due to the systemic treatment.
