Description The study elaborates on a hermeneutical approach to an interpretation of space of a literary work. In a tradition of Ricoeur's mimetic theory the author suggests to study literary space on three levels: as a fore-understanding, configuration, and refiguration. He also stipulates the first outline of spatial fore-understanding conception: phenomenological meanings related to human corporeity and to an existential understanding (especially experience of "dwelling" which has been described by J. Patočka and Ch. Norberg-Schulz), and meanings formed by culture and society (H. Lefébvre).
