| Description | Significant changes in numerous drug effects can be found in most people of advanced age. The range of applicable drugs changes in the old age and tends gradually to polypharmacotherapy. Multi-morbidity is a typical feature as well as nutritional problems and increasing risk of non-compliance. These facts when combined with pharmaco-kinetical and pharmaco-dynamical changes may lead up to serious undesired side effects and drug interactions. Increasing age brings generally increased iterindividual variability of dosages needcd for achieving the therapeutical effect. Pharmacotherapy in geriatric patients can be not only significantly curative but also dangerously toxic. |
