Description Stroke Register named IKTA has been recommended by the Ministry of Health of Czech Republic, by the Czech Neurological Society, and by the Cerebrovascular Section of the Czech Neurological Society for performance evaluation in centers certified for stroke treatment in the Czech Republic. Existing available information systems are inaccurate and can not be used for estimation of the stroke epidemiology. Register IKTA started after 1994 as a register compatible with the European Stroke Database (ESDB), later was updated, and based on the recommendation of the Ministry of Health is now administered by the Institute of Biostatistics and Analyses of Masaryk University in Brno. The aim of this register is to get exact information about epidemiology in Czech republic and this apply to improvement of care.
