Description In workplaces, Faculty of Science, Masaryk University and the company Energovýzkum, were this year launched the first verification experiments of corrosion of structural materials. Electrochemical monitoring of corrosion of material (steel) uses the dependencies between the corrosion potential and current passing through the metal surface. The corrosion potential is a measure of oxidative changes in the steel surface which is in contact with the monitored environment. Corresponds to the voltage reference or the reference electrode. Potential of metal is changing with the passage of current and this change can determine the corrosion rate of a metal inaction. Under laboratory conditions were recorded the potentiodynamic curves, in which the recorded current response to the continuous change of potential (linear polarization). For this purpose is used potentiostatic three - elecrode diagram consisting of a working electrode (steel sample), auxiliary (platinum metal sheet or wire) and reference electrode. Potentiostat makes the right and adjustable value of insert potential between the working and reference electrode. By monitoring voltammetric (current - voltage curves) and using Tafel equations was possible to test corrosion of the material, in this case steel.
