Description The article is a part of the larger project concerning the genealogy and the architecture of the concept of separation of powers. In the present piece, the principle of separation of powers is presented from the constitutionalist perspective which aim is to limit and to improve the government. The article briefly shows the formation of the concept of separation of powers and analyses the pure doctrine of separation of powers in order to examine the relationship between the separation of powers and the principle of checks and balances (whose origin is in the ancient idea of mixed government).
