| Description | The aim of this paper is to present an analysis of adjectives (derived from nouns) ending with -oucí which occur typically in etymological figure hrůza hrůzoucí (e.g. horror of horrors). These constructions have the same meaning as so-called Hebrew superlatives (Song of Songs, Book of Books etc.). A large corpus-and-internet-based evidence enables us to evaluate the description of this type in existing Czech grammars and dictionaries. The formal and semantic restrictions of the word-formation productivity will be displayed, and the impact of idiomatic pattern on creating of the new formations (often emerging in the playful usage of language) will be demonstrated. |
