Description Historical museology belongs to those museological disciplines that have quite a long tradition. It got into the spotlight of many theoreticians, nevertheless, just some of them tried to work out in detail its goals and mission thoroughly. The group that can be probably marked as the most important among them are those who, defining the subject of museology based its perception as demonstration of a specific relation or attitude of man to reality (Stránský, Waidacher, Raffler). It was mainly thanks to their opinions that the research of museum phenomenon evolution got into the closer connection with the history of human mind, which is, however, not enough reflected in the existing museology or non-museology production, which prefers rather "institutional" approach to the topic. In fact the "new" conception places demands and requirements to the potential researchers (identification of the museology phenomenon, interdisciplinary approach, etc.); in case of representatives of other fields, it still faces usually justified mistrust to literature calling itself museological. The presented article then points out possibilities and solutions that this specific concept offers at present and at the same time tries to describe some its current problems.
