Citation
Description The publication focuses on presenting some of the important and current issues of international politics in the region of East Asia, which is understand primarily as China, Korea and Japan. The chosen approach starts with the particular internal political issues in the countries of the region and continues with the international and global impacts. In the case of China and North Korea it is claimed in the subsequent chapters, that notwithstanding being non-democratic countries, their actual foreign policies are being formed within the political systems and therefore the knowledge of theirs functioning is useful for understanding their foreign policy behaviour. The chapter about Japan deals with the issue of Japanese identity and presents a very interesting insight into timely political development in Japan. The question of Republic of China (Taiwan) and relations with People’s Republic of China are approached from the perspective of the economic and social contacts and their possible impacts on the security situation. The view of energy security research is applied to compare behaviors of China and Japan in their securing of energy resources and discuss their possible mutual impacts. Following two chapters present territorial conflicts in the East and South China Seas which have been for already a couple of years presenting critical security problems in the region and their solutions and nowhere near to be seen. Finally, the last chapter presents the discourse about the regional and global impacts of the Chinese growth.
