Description The aim of this paper is to explain the migration of girls and unmarried women in the village of Křenovice in the Slavkov Estate in the 18th century. The study is based on the research of registers of inhabitants and orphans. These documents contain information about where girls stayed and what they did every year. The analysis of girls’ biographies showed that orphans started to work earlier and that they left the village more often than non-orphaned girls. Young women working elsewhere also found their husbands outside of Křenovice in many cases. Several women who could not find a job started to wander and beg or decided to leave the estate illegally. In the second half of the 18th century it was more common that people left the estate legally. It was proved that peasant women did not spend their whole lives in one place. They moved because of their work or marriage and when they had no other option they begged, wandered or escaped from the estate.
