| Description | My article is based mostly on the H. U. von Balthasar's (1905–1988) masterpiece Herrlichkeit – Theodramatik – Theologik (1961–1987). For most of today's philosophers, who are not fans of metaphysics, the term transcendental itself might be provocative. Therefore I will try to outline the legitimacy of metaphysics and the issue of transcendentals. I will dare to go farther and present for consideration that beauty could be prior to truth and good. I will show shortly, how the issue of beauty as one of the transcendentals was dealt with in Ancient Times and in the Middle Ages and the changes of it in ages later. |
