Description Debts are a frequent factor that influences the living circumstances of criminals. The aim of this study is to identify the risk situations, which influence the indebtness of people after custodial sentence. Three situations have been identified, which contain considerable risk of emerging or deepening debts: The duty of compensating damage caused by criminal activity, the emerging liability to pay the costs of legal proceeding and defence and liability of paying the expenditure of custodian sentence. The main problems, which occur in these situations, are a) the low financial and legal literacy of offenders and the related inefficient use of resources (of the defence) and unsuitable finacial decisions, or a general resignation on resolving the debt problem, b) the extend of liabilities, with which people leave custodial sentence and c) the limited options for resolving indebtness during a custodial sentence.
