Description A part of chapter deals with history of Metabolic syndrome focusing on the definition. From a historical point of view it turns out that spotting the person at risk and his further observation is much more important than accurate usage of definitions. The amount of risk for an individual lies in the occurance of group of factors in Metabolic syndrome. Metabolic syndrome belongs to risk factors for desease development which are one of the most common causes of deaths. Abdominal obesity, hypertension, lipid spectrum abnormalities, glucose tolerance disorder and inflammatory markers increase are included in basic risk factors. Sometimes some desease are listed as part of Metabolic syndrome, in other cases only biochemical abnormalities, therefore parts of metabolic syndrome can be divided into: typical, probable and loosely related. Not always is the Metabolic syndrome manifested by typical symptomes and it is neccessary to put emphasis also on probable and loosely related symptoms.
