Description Introduction: collagen matrix (CM) is used in periodontology and implant dentistry for soft tissue augmentation. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) are autologous blood plasma derivatives used in regenerative medicine. The aim of this experimental intervention controlled study was to evaluate the combined effect of plasma derivatives and CM in the healing and regeneration of soft tissues. Material and Methods: In this study, 27 white New Zealand rabbits were operated. After introduction of general anesthesia, four artificial defects in the mucosa of the upper jaw and palate were created. The studied groups were divided randomly (CM, CM + PRP, CM + PRF, control). The defects were evaluated after 1, 7 and 28 days.The pathologist evaluated semiquantitatively acute and chronic inflammatory infiltrate, the degree of angiogenesis and wound reepithelization, the amount of collagen and macrophages. Results: there was no statistically significant difference in any of the above mentioned parameters. The defects presented initially an acute inflammatory infiltrate, followed by granulation tissue formation and after 28 days with final stages of reepithelization. Conclusion: addition of blood plasma derivates into the collagen matrix did not improve healing in any of the monitored parameters.
