Description The book provides information on the development of printed media since its establishment, while focusing primarily on the 19th and 20th centuries, when newspapers and magazines grew important in relation to the development of modern society. The publication addresses the key trends and turning points that influenced the development of printed media in the world. Following the transformation of communication tools allowing mediating the information both in relation to the text and image, it takes notice of the period information sources, mediating information and processing it. It offers a view of the economic foundations of print media and the very process of their creation or production. In addition, it focuses on the issues of their periodicity and availability or circulation, as well as the transformation of their forms and contents. The book also addresses the influence of advertising onto the development of the printed media, as well as the transformations of censorship, their manners, procedures, and reach, and its public perception. Las but not least, the book outlines the issues of the reflection of the printed media in the period society. Primarily, the book focuses on the development in the Anglo-Saxon, French, and German sphere of the Euro-American civilisation area.
