| Description | The article discusses several issues of the currently important topic of aging and old age. At the beginning it lists some biological and sociocultural aspects of aging, then it describes general principles of gerontogenesis and the third part discusses two stages of functional capacity and changes in productivity. Awareness of the dependency between these changes and age is a prerequisite for dealing with older people in the labor process. Performance estimates based on chronological age do not incorporate individual differences in labor capacity. At the end of the discourse the author deliberates about the position of aging people in the contemporary society. She draws attention to the following facts: 1. Limited access of older people to the labor market and its consequences; 2. Significance of the synergetic effect of intergenerational cooperation in businesses; 3. Absence of the old age concept in social sciences. |
