Calphad-type assessment of the Sb-Sn-Zn ternary system

Description The ternary Sb-Sn-Zn system has been assessed by CALPHAD-type approach. The limiting binaries of the Sb-Sn-Zn system from literature were used and the available experimental Sb-Sn-Zn ternary information were reviewed. Ternary intermetallic stoichiometric phase with stoichiometry 50%Sb-25%Sn-25%Zn was identified in the Sb-Sn-Zn system in published experimental papers. The assessment was based on published experimental papers and our new DTA measurement of equilibrated samples in quartz ampoules. Thermodynamic description of mentioned ternary Sb2SnZn phase has not been known up to now. We used three-sublattice stoichiometric model for its thermodynamic description. The thermodynamic parameters of the ternary phase and ternary parameters of the liquid phase were assessed. The liquid projection, isothermal sections of the ternary phase diagram, and temperatures of the invariant reactions are calculated by Pandat software. The assessed thermodynamic dataset was used for predicting of the DTA signal (by Thermocalc software) of the selected Sb-Sn-Zn alloys as an application example.
