Description Homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia is a rare hereditary disease characterized by very high concentration of LDL-cholesterol levels and atherosclerotic complications in a young age. Treatment usually consists of combination of high doses hypolipidemic drugs and LDL-apheresis. Recently, new drugs (lomitapide and PCSK9 inhibitors) are available.
