Description In the introduction, the authors recall the concept of health as the most important social value, including its definition in relation to the role of law as a tool of social control in health protection. Attention is also focused on the so-called consumer socialization, the meaning of so-called health literacy and its empirical evaluation in the Czech Republic as well as in some other EU countries. This paper is further focused on the hygienic aspects and limits under the protection of consumer´s health. In this context the authors deal with "vulnerable consumers", with the quality of the environment and related issues of healthy raw materials and other materials and components, which can determine the quality of the product (food), meals and services. These circumstances mostly ordinary consumers themselves cannot significantly affect or subjectively evaluate correctly. Last but not least is solved the question whether, in this area, adequate law enforcement exists.
