| Description | The book delivers conclusions of an inquiry into the aspects of the development of Czech feature films. The research draws upon in-depth qualitative interviews with 62 filmmakers (predominantly producers, directors and writers) who have collaborated on 50 sample films in 2013-2009. The project concluded by the book was contracted out to the Masaryk University research team by the State Cinematography Fund in order to map Czech film development practice from both the economic and cultural perspective, with the aim of helping to optimize state support system in this area. The core of the study identifies key development problems and structures them by four product types (based on films’ orientation on profit or cultural prestige and their relation to mainstream) and by professions. Each subsection concludes with illustrative quotations from the interviews. |
