Description The monograph strives to fill up an almost empty space of complex description and analysis of the political events that occurred early in 2011 across the entire Arab World, commonly referred to as the "Arab Spring". The monograph examines the cultural background, historical roots, and consequences of an ongoing revolutionary wave of demonstrations, riots and civil (rather tribal and ethno-confessional) wars all over the Arab states of the Near East, followed by Western intellectuals, often with unwarranted hope. The author offers a concise synthetic view of current evolution in the Near East. He touches upon the specificities of Arab political culture, the problem of local identities as well as structural differences of individual areas of the Arab world, and the confrontation of "secular" ideologies of authoritarian regimes and conservative monarchies with the unavoidable process of Islamization of Arab societies.
