Description Exposure to tobacco and especially to nicotine is not only a health problem for adults. It has also been shown to damage the health of the foetuses, newborns, children and adolescents, who are more vulnerable to influence of hazardous factors. The new scientific literature is concerned about understanding to mechanisms of nicotine effects on the onset of cognitive and emotional disturbances, described by many epidemiologic studies for exposed population. Their maturation of neural circuity is not yet completed and the inherent plasticity of the developing brain makes them particularly vulnerable to nicotine-induced alteration. These results arise over the protection of prenatal and postnatal exposure to nicotine as the priority.
