| Description | The chapter is dedicated to the Good at the cosmological level. Plato's dialogue Phaedo (97d–98a) presents a desirable way of interpreting the cosmos - in all things and phenomena (specifically the shape of the Earth's and its position in space, relative speed and movements of stars) a cause should be determined that affects their best condition and their Good. A teleological interpretation is therefore required. The aim of this chapter is to determine whether, at some point in his texts, Plato himself presents such an interpretation. First is examined the Dialogue Phaedo in which we cannot find the desired interpretation. Therefore we move our attention to Dialogue Timaeius which contains an interpretation of the cosmos as one of its main themes. Neither here we can find detailed answers to all specific questions from the Phaedo. However it is pointed out what is the Good of the universe and of its parts. It is a mathematical arrangement of elements and the rational foundations of cosmic processes. |
