| Description | In the present contribution a Greek semidivine hero Iamos is introduced with regard to his mythological curriculum, mediated by Pindar. In this perspective his description is compared with characteristic features of personages of twin gods or heroes in various Indo-European traditions and analyzed from both mythological and etymological points of views. The Fenno-Ugric parallels, probably borrowed from an Indo-Iranian source, offer an explanation, why just the Indo-Iranian twin-god *Yama- was connected with the kingdom of the dead. |
