Description The chapter analyzes specific forms, methods and motivation applied by ethnographic-type museums to selected types of collective identity and memory of the population of the Brno language island within the context of life in the original mother country as well as after expulsion from the former Czechoslovakia. Namely, two museums are involved - the original one in Želešice u Brna and the other one in Erbach, Baden-Wuerttemberg, where a large part of this community was forced to move after World War II. The subject matter of the research is examined in four periods (WWI and WWII, the Protectorate, the period from 1945 to 1989, and the present), in order to be able to follow the development of the problem area in the context of fundamental social changes resulting from the events of the so-called short 20th century (1914-1991). The museology is presented as a significant factor for preservation of the national and regional identity, as well as the bearer of the collective memory, including the phenomena closely linked to it such as collective trauma or forgetting , which is achieved through demonstration of authentic items.
