Description | The aim of the present paper is to introduce the topic of learner autonomy and its development in lessons of English at primary school and the main emphasis is put on the methodology of the future research and the evaluation of the process of pre-research along with the first results of the research. The main aims of the research, the methodology of which is described here, are to identify and analyze opportunities for the development of learner autonomy offered by teachers and to create a typology of learning situations that develop learner autonomy. In addition to this, another aim is to identify teachers’ beliefs about learner autonomy and to investigate how teachers develop learner autonomy in their lessons. In order to reach the mentioned aims, different methods of data collection and analysis will be used (class observation, videostudy, interview, coding). These are discussed in a greater detail in the present paper along with research aims, questions and the procedure of pre-research. The first results, the benefits of the research and possible pitfalls of the future research are also presented here. |
