Description The International Children's Art Exhibition Lidice has been frequently designated as the most extensive and the oldest functioning display of children's creation in the world. In 2017 we will see its 45th year. However, the beginnings of the exhibition are linked with the commemoration of the anniversary of the Lidice tragedy in 1967. The title of the event refers not only to the fate of Lidice children (1942), nonetheless, it also wants to point out to the lives of others that had also been marked by war conflicts. The announced topics are not linked to tragic events, though. Children creators from tens of countries of the world can reflect upon their common joys and experiences of life through their creations or envision their imaginary worlds. This article will speak about the historic context of the origins and the functioning of the International Children´s Art Exhibition Lidice. It is reflecting upon the benefits of art competitions and presentations of children´s creations. It is based on the realized qualitative research (implemented interviews and questionnaires with teachers and judges of arts and crafts, and participant observation from the meetings of awarded creators, arts and crafts teachers and other participants) in the Exhibitions in Lidice Memorial, which is the culmination of each year. We are offering arguments why it is not changing, why there is an increase in the interest of children and their teachers to take part in the exhibition. We will also point out the benefits of the international confrontation of children´s creations not only for the awarded children but also for arts and crafts education here and abroad.
