Description It is a well - know n fact (Kane, 2008, Perreault, 2009), that people with disabilities are more vulnerable to violence compared to healthy population. People with disabilities can represent an attractive and easy target from the aggressor point of view, especially because they are considered as someone who is not able to defend effectively (Bones, 2013). F or three years we have been focusing at the Faculty of Sports Studies MU on self - defense of people with special needs, especially wheelchair users . The „Self - 22. 9. 2017 49 defens e courses for wheelchair users“ were supported by grants (Specifický výzkum FSpS) and we focused on different goals within this framework. The project in 2015 was directed to educate, create and evaluate methodology of self - defense c ourse for people with physical handicap, particularly wheelchair users; in 2016 was the project aimed to security concerns and risks for wheelchair users. The method - ology was based on exploratory methods – questionnaire and interview. For the data analysi s we utilized an open coding technique and statistical methods - Mann – Whitney U test and Kruskal – Wallis ANOVA. Despite the fact that the participants might be more sensitive to danger and fears , they report increased perception of their safety, thanks to i ncreased self - confidence and an active approach to prevention. Apart of influence on victimization of wheel - chair users can training of self - defense noticeably influence also physical, psychological, mental and social health. To make these perceptions more intensive and to maintain the acquired skills, the long - lasting and regular education is necessary.
