Citation
Description The aim of the conference panel was to open a discussion about absence/presence of women in the discipline of religious studies in the Czech Republic and about causes and consequences of the situation. Although there are more women than men studying at the undergraduate level (at least at the religious studies department at Masaryk University), the ratio changes at the higher levels of the study programme, and finally, the number of women employed at academic positions at the Czech religious studies departments is rather low. Thus, we would like to discuss how the possibilities of the career advancement of women are structured in the religious studies and related disciplines. The question of the representation of women is not treated solely as a question of quantity, but also as a question of an influence on the functioning of academic institutions as well as on the character of the discipline of religious studies. All in all, this topic opens the doors to questioning the ideal of a scientist and a "normal" (desirable) course of a scientific career.
