Description Regenerative medicine intends to develop new approaches towards treatment of severe diseases, and tissue engineering, as an interdisciplinary field, is the major means to achieve this goal. Tissue engineering combines cells, signal molecules and scaffolds. Scaffolds are 3D structures, which mimick the extracellular matrix, serve as cell carriers, and enable the cells to adhere, proliferate and recreate newly forming tissue architecture on the scaffold. Nanofiber scaffolds are suitable as cell carrier due to their resemblance to fibrilar part of the extracellular matrix, possible high porosity and easy processing, usually via electrospinning, molecular self-assembly or phase separation. Nanofibers can be used in many fields of medicine.
