Description The parliamentary elections of March 2016 represent a political earthquake in Slovak politics. It is not just the very fact of high electoral volatility. This is, in fact, an accompanying phenomenon of party politics in most of the countries of Central and Eastern Europe, including Slovakia. However, the March elections were also reflected in dramatic changes at the level of representation of political parties in parliament and consequently in the innovative composition of the government that emerged. This also redefined the dynamics of relations between the government and the parliamentary opposition. In this publication, we tried to outline the main parameters of that political earthquake. The book is divided into three parts: In the first one (chapters one to three), we describe the electoral inputs: the composition of the candidate lists of relevant political parties, the changes of public opinion and voters' support, and the campaign of the parties. The second part (chapters four to six) analyzes the election results. We analyze here the structure of territorial electoral support of the parties, the trends of the electoral participation and the results of the preferential voting. The third part consists of only one (seventh) chapter. In it, we are approaching the process of the emergence of a new governmental coalition and we place it in a broader framework of opportunities, threats and dilemmas arising from participation in governmental power.
