Description The author deals with the topic of the presence of Czech Roma in the Czech public space. The paper is divided into two parts, the first presents the image of Roma society in the Czech Republic from a sociological and historical perspective and incorporates the issue of migration, which is an immanent element of Romany history and culture also in the Czech lands. It is pointed out that the Roma were present in the Czech lands at the turn of the 15th and 16th centuries, yet they are still regarded as a foreign element in some social circles today and in the stereotypical perception of this society. The paper mentions the abundance of Romani society in the pre-war period, it provides examples of Roma studies showing their situation between 1945-1989 and also after 1989. It reminds that their living conditions have a considerable impact on the maintenance of negative stereotypes towards Roma; but this is a problem that can be observed in many European countries where Roma are present. In this respect, the situation of Roma in the Czech Republic and other European countries is more or less the same. The second part of the article is devoted to the description of the project entitled "Memory of Roma Workers", whose aim was to focus the society's attention on a different picture of Roma, enabling the destruction of working stereotypes and prejudices. The author emphasizes that the main motivation of the project participants was not the preservation of the memory of Roma workers in the Czech Republic, but an incentive to dialogue and cultivation of the common past.
