Description This study seeks to outline the fifteen years of activities of Centre for Education in Museology of the Faculty of Arts of the Charles University at the National Museum in Prague (henceforth the Centre), one of the most important current methodological and educational centres in the field of museology. The article analyses factors and phenomena that led to the establishment of the Centre in 1967, including the theoretical concept of Jiří Neustupný, Director of the Centre, that became a point of departure for the final form of the Centre’s curriculum. Apart from presenting the structure of the educational programme for regular students of Charles University and museum workers and the introduction of personalities participating in the educational activities, the study also examines the Centre’s non-teaching activities (research and methodology, collaboration with Czech and international museum organisations, collection and publishing of museology literature). The article came into existence on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the museology centre boasting wide international and professional recognition, and is the first to chart its development.
