Description The author of the present paper shows at various interpretations of motifs in the literary theory (B.V.Tomashevsky, V.J.Propp, E.Frenzel etc). She deals with motifs of four elements in the interesting work by Fyodor Mikhailovich Dostoyevsky called Diary of a Writer which consists not only of variety of articles, essays and feuilletons, but also of short stories. In this relation the author compares motifs of elements in genres belonging to documentary literature, fictional literature and boundary genres. She tries to answer the question which kind of place motifs of elements have in the Diary of a Writer in relation with other works by Dostoyevsky.
