| Description | This book is focused on the psychological view on math abilities and mathematical knowledge with a special accent on their measurement. It introduces the psychometrical, cognitive, cultural and educational perspectives, considering for instance sex differences, the causes of faulty solutions, neuropsychological processes behind numerical processing and their relation to language and vocabulary. Furthermore, it presents an overview of psychological tests of math abilities available in the Czech Republic. This theoretical review is supplemented by elaboration of selected aspects of the Rasch Model and the results of the author's own research which concerns the “cognitive prerequisites” of higher mathematical thinking. |
