Description The aim of this work is to detect zoonotic microorganism B. burgdorferi s.l. in the tissues of small mammals and at the same time determine the prevalence of antibodies against B. burgdorferi s.l. and Leptospira interrogans s.l .. In 2016, 223 small mammals were captured in various locations of the Czech Republic, of which 21 were rodents and 5 insectivores belonging to 7 species. For detection of antibodies against B. burgdorferi s.l. in serum or heart flush, enzyme immunoassay was used and a modified agglutination assay was used to detect antibodies against L. interrogans. For direct identification of B. burgdorferi s.l. PCR was used in selected animal tissues. Antibodies IgM against B. burgdorferi s.l. were found in 23% sera and 31% heart rinses and IgG antibodies in 3% serum and 9% heart rinses. Antibodies against L. interrogans were detected in 8% of cardiac rinses. B. burgdorferi s.l. PCR was detected in 35% samples.
