Description xMAP (x = analyte, MAP = Multi-Analyte Profiling) is a new technology enabling simultaneous detection of a number of substances in one sample. These substances may be nucleic acids or proteins, allowing the detection and typing of pathogenic microorganisms, the determination of the composition of foods or feeds, or the simultaneous identification of a large number of antigens or antibodies. The aim of this work was to introduce xMAP technology, its principle and use in food safety. This work is also a brief overview of how has been xMAP technology successfully applied for the detection and typing of viruses, bacteria, parasites, yeasts or fungi, as well as in the field of food adulteration.
