Description Teaching of thematic area Preparing meals at elementary schools is well-founded. Students learn not only new skills in food preparation but also develop knowledge and skills in the field of food and nutrition, learn gastronomic rules, the basics of economics and farming, home ecology, hygiene and appropriate eating at the dining table. At the same time children develop their creativity and manual skills. Research has produced both positive and negative results. The number of schools where the dishes are being prepared at the 2 nd grade is relatively large: 77% of schools in the Brno region. At the same time, the survey revealed a number of surprising negative findings. The thematic unit is taught by teachers of various approvals without the need for education in the relevant field. The source of teaching materials is most often different websites because there are currently no current textbooks or comprehensive methodological texts approved by the Ministry of Education.
