Description Early medieval site Pohansko near Břeclav is systematically researched more than 60 years. The results of excavations provide the evidence of various functions attributed to the different parts of the settlement. These functions are mostly interpreted through the presence or absence of different types of artefacts or through spatial analysis. Spatial analysis is currently widely used and indispensable part of archaeological work. It serves us to better understand our archaeological data, visualize, create new models and interpret. Nevertheless, the analysis of spatial distribution of artefacts from the archaeological cultural layer is not one of the frequent topics of research. The presented paper will aim on summarising existing knowledge and present models of settlement structure of Pohansko. Further it will deal with the artefact from the cultural layer. By analysing their fragmentation, spatial distribution and their interrelationship, I will try to define communications, waste areas, surface structures and other attributes associated with the "living space" of the population living at early medieval Pohansko. The new approach may not only provide us new knowledge on our current knoledge, but also deal with issues of identifying objects, which are not recognisable by common terrain methods.
