Description Chronic non-communicable diseases (or mass diseases, previously referred to as lifestyle diseases) are related to an unhealthy lifestyle and currently belong among frequent diseases. In the Czech Republic, cardiovascular and neoplastic diseases represent the most frequent cause of death. The family and the school play a major role in primary prevention of these diseases. Health education is a key subject that can have a major impact on health literacy among the population and reduction of the prevalence of these diseases. The paper presents the results of an analysis of a health education textbook and the Framework educational programme for elementary education with respect to prevention of chronic non-communicable diseases, selected projects aimed at prevention of these diseases, and methodological materials that contain a didactic transformation of the issue.
