Description The authors present a case of severe diarrhea-positive hemolytic uremic syndrome (D+HUS) in a 4,5-year-old boy associated with infection by enterohemorrhagic Escherichia coli (EHEC) O157:H7 producing Shiga toxin 2c. The patient was admitted to the hospital with atypical HUS (aHUS) based on CD46/MCP (membrane cofactor protein) deficiency/mutation. This case thus represents a rare coincidence of aHUS and EHEC O157:H7 infection.
