Description Today's civilization, based on modern agriculture and living in permanent houses, is built on foundations that appeared more than 10 thousand years ago in the Middle East. The lecture aims to summarise the current state of research on the beginnings of agriculture and its consequences for human society. We will look at the domestication of plants and animals and consider whether the results of this process are interconnected. Agriculture and related phenomena continued to spread from the Middle East in various ways. We will briefly imagine the emergence of a sedentary lifestyle in the Balkans and the Mediterranean. More attention will be paid to the situation in Central Europe, where the beginnings of agriculture are linked to the LBK. We will emphasize the differences in the agricultural system between Central and South-Eastern Europe, which will help to understand the modus operandi of society in the second half of the 6th millennium BC in Central Europe. The lecture ends with reflections on the possible causes of the end of culture with linear ceramics.
