Description Czech Republic has so far lacked the extension of a digital identity document for communication with state authorities or private services providers. Currently, the so-called SONIA – Banking identity, has been approved, which aims to make it easier for citizens (bank clients) to handle their matters electronically with authorities and private companies. Practically, this will mean for those who have a bank account set up that they will be able, for example, to pay a tax fee, overwrite electricity or file a tax return trough their online banking login. The project SONIA should provide citizens easier access to state and private digital services. On the other hand, this project should bring simplification of identification of service providers, which will support the growth of online services and save verification costs. This contribution will aim to describe the functioning of the SONIA project in connection with the legislative changes needed to implement this project.
