Citation
Description The traditional orality related to indigenous languages contributes in a decisive way to the diversity of cultural manifestations of each country, in whose territory the members of the respective Amerindian communities live. Furthermore, the need to view indigenous oral traditions as an indivisible and legitimate part of the universal cultural heritage has long been underlined. It should be emphasized that precisely those cultural manifestations defined as oral traditions are threatened by the risk of disappearance more than others, because many of the indigenous languages fall into disuse. This is due to the fact that their users stop speaking them, when they are exposed to all kinds of strong pressures, namely, of social and economic character. As a consequence of such an undesirable situation, many indigenous languages are in danger of extinction.
