Description Physiological range of calcium concentration is necessary to ensure a lot of processes in the body. Elevated serum calcium may have clinical manifestations across a ranges of severity. From asymptomatic to abdominal pain, vomiting, constipation, dehydrated polyuria, psychiatric manifestations, cardiac arrhythmias to seizures and impaired consciousness. The frequency of hypercalcaemia in children is lower than in adult patients, but the most common causes of this condition are the same - primary hyperparathyroidism and cancer. On the example of a patient with acute pancreatitis induced by severe hypercalcemia, we present a differential-diagnostic algorithm and management in patients with hypercalcemia.
