| Description | This article provides a brief commentary on the recent case law of the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) related to environmental protection. A particular interest is paid to the protection of endangered species under The Habitats Directive and protection of birds under the Birds Directive: Cases C-88/19 (Alianta pentru combaterea abuzurilor), C-477/19 (Magistrat der Stadt Wien, Grand hamster), C-297/19 (Naturschutzbund Deutschland - Landesverband Schleswig Holstein), C-411/19 (WWF Italia Onlus), C-217/19 (Commission v Finland), C-161/19 (Commission v Austria). Furthermore, a summary is provided of case-law concerning the promotion of renewable energy (C-818/19, C-878/19), EU ETS (C-189/19, C-113/19), environmental impact assessment (C-24/19, C-535/18) and waste management and transport (C-15/19, C-654/18). |
