| Description | The lecture will focus on the way in which medical care and quarantine measures can become a tool of political control and exclusion in times of pandemics. On the examples from the Middle Ages to the early XXth century, and focusing on the case of Russian interwar emigrants, will be shown to what extent sanitary measures should be perceived beyond the context of public health protection. A short animated movie will then present the fate of the Russian art historian Nikodim Pavlovich Kondakov, who emigrated to Czechoslovakia in the early 1920s. |
