| Description | The contribution firstly shows a contradiction between law on paper and law in practice as regards the aims of punishment in the Czech Republic. Looking at the current legislation as well as our international obligations, one might think that criminal punishment in the Czech Republic is indeed aimed at the rehabilitation of an offender. However, in practice, there are many problems in the work and methods of law enforcement and criminal justice bodies and the prison system in this regard, and there is a lot to improve. The next part of the contribution discusses some shortcomings in judicial practice, namely, cumulative sentences imposed consecutively and problems concerning conditional release. |
