Description The aim of the article is to summarize the main current knowledge about the complications and consequences of childhood obesity. A targeted search was performed in selected publication databases, using suitable keywords and their combinations. The results were divided into three main areas - health, psychosocial and economic. We focused mainly on health complications, their description is the largest part, we briefly mention the remaining two areas. The most common health complications are high blood pressure, insulin resistance, and related diabetes, and stretch marks, but health complications are described in virtually all organ systems. Of the psychological consequences, bullying and depression are at the forefront. The economic impacts are mainly caused by increased health costs. Due to the large number of complications, their severity, and due to the high percentage of the transition from childhood obesity to adulthood, it is necessary to pay attention to thorough primary prevention.
